Pet sitting is more than just playing with puppies all day, although that's a great perk of this calling. It's being a steward for the pets and homes that are in our care when our clients are away.
We take pride in the service we provide, we try to be proactive and handle little talks as we are them. We'll water a plant even when we weren't asked, make an extra stop if we're worried about a pup being alone too long, brush out a four legged we're carring for on a long term sit. We're not perfect, that's not possible. But we care and we work from our heart, we do our best even when we're tired or its hot outside. And we count our blessings every day. We're grateful for this life, and humbled to be in service. Thank you! We're so humbled to have been nominated and then move into the finals for this years Humane Society's Compassion Award for Pet Sitters. Our focus is to give back to our community in meaningful ways and provide reliable, experienced, compassionate care to the pets we serve. Here's a little about what the Compassion Award means.
Winners of the Animal Compassion Awards will be featured in the July 2015 issue of San Diego Pets Magazine! Nominations for the Animal Compassion Awards can be made at sandiegopetsmagazine.com. Through applications submitted by the community for individuals and businesses, San Diego Humane Society will recognize and pay tribute to those who have an extraordinary and inspiring story or example of compassion towards animals in one of three categories:
Whether we end up winning, or not, being in the finals is an honor. "Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring--it was peace."
Milan Kundera I'm sitting the sweetest lithe Dauschund tonight, he's sleeping next to me and I can't help but think how lucky I am. I love my job, caring for my clients fur babies so they can work or go on holiday care free. We at Pridey Girl, take our responsibilities to heart and do everything we can to make sure our pups get great care at each visit. We have processes in place to insure we know each dogs routine, their diet, their personalities, we do all of this because we want to be your pet care provider of choice. "Some keep the Sabbath going to Church – I keep it, staying at Home – With a Bobolink for a Chorister – And an Orchard, for a Dome..." Emily Dickinson We're so blessed to live in a place filled with nature and mild weather all year. Fifteen years of my professing life, I worked from office buildings, longing to be in the sunshine just beyond my reach. it was a good life with weekends and holidays off, great health insurance and a reliable schedule with a regular paycheck. so why on earth would I guide that up Nature restores my spirit, it's a constant reminder that I'm not in control. I grew up with a deep love of the natural world; riding on favorite horse, in the swampy woods of my childhood and hearing the wind waft through the trees was better than any possession I could "own." I felt at ease and peaceful, safe in the embrace of the earth and my steed.
I want the pets in my care to feel the sense of calm and comfort that they bring to me. I love my peaceful, quiet days filled with my waggers and purrers. A strong introvert by nature the simplest part of my days is the hard and steady physical work that fills it. My hardest task? Most don't believe it because I do love people and interact enthusiastically, but it is meeting my two legged clients for the first time. It's natural for me to be immediately drawn to the animals in a room and takes focus to do the same with my people. Make no mistake, I love my clients and feel so blessed to serve each one. But it's the time with your fur babies, that silent connection, that I find magical. Like a secret potion. ..or a tonic. "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." Hippocrates
I was raised to believe that food is healing, not only to my body but to my spirit. I still take immense pleasure in choosing, preparing, eating and sharing meals. I give thanks each day that I am blessed to have fresh, abundant food to choose from. It's a miracle and a gift, this abundance that fills my life. A perfect onion, bulb of garlic, measure of Irish butter or olive oil. .. art can only match this beauty, never surpass! The same is true for what we feed our pets. When I finally asked myself this question I realized that most mass marketed pet foods had unregulated and inferior ingredients. Didn't that impact my pets body and spirit the same way it would impact my own? I've come to trust Wellness Core products for our furry family. it's made with"human grade" ingredients that promote long term health. I choose to "pay the Grocer. " If ingredients matter to you, check out Dog Food Advisor online and search for your current brand in their database. And remember some sage advice I was offered many years ago: "you can pay the grocer or pay the doctor..." What are you feeding your fur kids? "And I learned what is obvious to a child. That life is simply a collection of little lives, each lived one day at a time. That each day should be spent finding beauty in flowers and poetry and talking to animals..." Nicholas Sparks
I can mark the changing seasons by this tiny urban garden. It's so simple yet it brings me joy each time I pass it. Maybe my joy comes from the love with which it is tended, or knowing see who tend it are people of substance and kindness. Maybe it's because it reminds me of how lucky I am to have fresh, beautiful food to eat, good health, breath! Maybe knowing why it brings me joy is not as important as the fact that it just does! Maybe most things are just that simple. How is it that the simplest things in life offer the greatest gifts? I find that my happiest moments are the quiet ones sitting in the company of soulful canine and feline companions.
I love the gentle energy that fills a room during these times. My soul feels still and quiet and my life has meaning and purpose. What a gift, that for this moment, I get to do what I love for a living. I enter the new year feeling blessed and grateful. |
